The 2020 Subaru Outback Returns with New Body, More Tech, and Better Off-Road Capability
June 27 2019, Subaru Des Sources
The 2020 Subaru Outback is all new. Whether you choose the 2.5-litre Boxer engine or the new turbo Boxer, there are Touring, Limited and Premiere trim choices.
A new design with special body cladding and sculpted wheel arches reminds the onlooker that this is a rugged, sporty vehicle. The pushed out fenders add a planted stance while a dynamic silhouette suggests motion. Ready to haul, the cargo area and its opening width are bigger due to the changes.
Turbocharged Power in the All-New 2020 Subaru Outback
The SUBARU BOXER 2.5-litre engine has been updated with 90 per cent new parts. Output is now 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The Lineartronic CVT has auto stop/start for fuel savings and an eight-speed manual mode just for fun.
A new 260-horsepower turbocharged engine comes with a high-torque Lineartronic CVT. Drivers can enjoy 277 lb-ft of torque at revs as low as 2,000 rpm and as high as 4,800 rpm. You can bring your snowmobile or ATV along since this Outback can tow 1,590 kg.
With X-mode, symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive won’t fail you on snowy roads or trail roads. Steep inclines, slippery surfaces and off-pavement drives are met with optimised transmission, engine, brake, and AWD settings. Drivers can now get an advanced X-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes for even more capability.
Driver assistance is standard with the 2020 suite of EyeSight devices. Lane centring, sway warning, adaptive cruising, and other functions work with the driver to keep the Outback out of trouble.
A New Cabin for the 2020 Subaru Outback
The new design has opened up the cabin with more outward visibility and expanded interior dimensions. The prominent dashboard can house a first-ever 11.6-inch touch screen. Contrasting upholstery and trim materials let shoppers personalise their ride.
More gadgets and top tech toys make life easier. For instance, in addition to a one-touch retractable cargo cover, Outbacks now offer hands-free power liftgates. In addition to the standard rear-view camera, an available front-view camera shows a 180-degree view. A DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System can watch for signs of drowsy or distracted driving. It also adjusts the seats and door mirrors for individual drivers.
